Author's Purpose and Thesis Statement Review with Ms. Hunt
We are beginning our last essay of the year. It's an argumentative essay. We'll be looking at 2 topics that relate to the novel, Touching Spirit Bear, that you're reading in literature class. The topics we'll be looking at are:
Remember a good thesis statement:
- Takes a stand! (don't be wishy washy!)
- Makes a claim that one might dispute
- Tells the reader what to expect from your essay
- Expresses one main idea
- Is specific
- Circle/Restorative Justice
- Parents being held responsible for their children's crimes
